XX. Information
There’s more to this superficial façade
Appearance(50 words minimum):
Illusion is a spry, tawny creature. When the sun glints off her fur in a certain way, it creates a gold film that runs across her tan chest. Otherwise, she camouflages nicely against the sands of the neutral beaches. Her pelt is also thinly layered. Because of this, her sharp bones tend to protrude slightly from beneath it. However, her lithe frame is tiny but stronger that it appears, even though she isn’t muscular.
Her furtive, quirky eyes are a deep chocolaty umber with hints of mahogany creeping in. These orbs of ebony dart furiously about. Perched on her slanting muzzle are twin ears of tan. A fluffy tail dangles from behind, swishing in perpetual motion.
Personality(150 words):
Illusion is a tricky customer. She is deceitful, sly, and a bit merciless. One of her most prized talents is her ability of acute persuasion. Her words calmly flow into a trickling pool, softly and reassuringly to the unwary canine. Contrary to those who use brute force to coax information out of others, she utilizes her cool persuasion to get whatever she desires.
Although one could easily guarantee she will not reveal a secret, she is untrustworthy. Her small and wiry frame is deceiving; many regard her as a threat. Renown to hanging around odd locations, others automatically assume she is snooping as usual. She is also typically associated with all things evil, bringing fear to those who know what she can make others do. They call her influential abilities “black magic” or “the devil’s magic.”
Even though she is capable of being warm-hearted and caring, rarely does she exhibit these traits. These are reserved her friends only. The highest honor anyone could ever hope to be bestowed upon them by her is her token of friendship. Many acknowledge her with her merciless attitude for she has absolutely no heart for strangers.
For her, lying is a second nature. It’s her secret to survival. She can transition smoothly from truth to lies without displaying any outward sign. There is no solid method of determining whether she is being honest or deceitful. Therefore, most assume things are contrary to what she says. Another helpful side to this is her ability to identify others’ lies. Then, too, does she not display any signs of recognition.
Her way of talking is also baffling. While it is difficult to discern differences between honesty and lies, it is equally hard to comprehend her spoken thoughts. Everything she relates is twisted up, packaged, and ends up as a riddle. This is also a great advantage for distracting the listening canine into not watching where they are going or doing.
History:
Illusion was born into a violent pack, which greatly approved of sacrifice in the form of canines. Any fox who bent the rules was automatically a candidate for the next sacrificial offering. Her younger siblings all were extreme trouble-makers, who had inherited their parents’ feisty attitude. There were her younger sisters, Aida and Aisha, two adorable, tawny foxlets just like her. And her younger brother, Kenric, a nosy, tan fox with splashes of crimson flowing across his back. Unfortunately, in a litter, the oldest pup was considered responsible for anything the younger siblings did. In this case, it meant that if any of her three littermates caused a commotion, she, Illusion, would suffer for it. Fortunately, though, this accountability wouldn’t begin until the elder sibling was at least three months old.
During the first three months of her life, Illusion was constantly battered with more news of her siblings’ latest escapades or charades. Each day that passed caused her nerves to mount. She knew the trouble would only increase as they discovered new methods of wreaking havoc. She also realized her days were literally numbered. Then, it happened. She turned three months old. And with those three months came the bulk of her responsibilities.
At first, Kenric, Aida, and Aisha were perfect angels. They consumed their food civilly and deigned to jibe at those who hunted. They did not rearrange the pack’s bedding, nor did they perch discarded antlers on unsuspecting foxes’ sleeping muzzles. But alas, this reign of angelic behavior did not last long. It only lasted a month before Kenric had the wild idea to smuggle one of the newborns into the nearby river to see if it could swim. This occurred during the rainy season, so the river was a raging monster, with its frothy currents tumbling across the deep, rock-riddled banks. It was as dangerous and treacherous as Illusion’s present personality. Unluckily for her, the ‘swimming lesson’ did not end well. To put it bluntly, the newborn perished in the foaming waves that careened over those spiky rocks. Unsympathetic as he was, Kenric was not at all sorry for what he had done – to the newborn and Illusion. Desperate, she invented a lie to save her skin. Her siblings, noting that she could easily bluff her way out, decided to continue with their endless tricks, and each time Illusion would repetitively lie her way safe. And thus it lasted until she was old enough to permanently desert her pack and seek the security and comfort of a less inclined-to-violence pack.
