The birds chirped while flying around or standing on a branch. Everything was beautiful. The day was perfect. Roxy hated it.
Every summer was the same. It was hot and too bright. It made Roxy overheat if she staid out in the rays too long. And that wasn't even part of the dislike. When the sun was out and the day was nice, people tended to become more happy. Except Roxy. She preferred the cold, bitter winter. It made her fur thicker, and all the more beautiful. At least, in her opinion. Then again in her mindset, only her opinion mattered.
The sun had a hard time shining through the thick branches of this forest. Roxy had picked to go here because of that reason. It held shade, something she desperately needed. But it also held mysteries and danger. This place was a part of a pack's territory, one she couldn't remember. And she didn't even care. It's not like they'd find her, right? She had hidden herself in the bushes, and regrettably rubbed a bit of her pack's scent off of her.
As she thought about it, she couldn't really recall why she was here. Her Alpha hadn't given her any order to go to this forest, meaning she had come on her own. She just couldn't remember why. Roxy wrapped her tail around a small leaf, tearing it off of the smaller branches it was on. She glared at it, not liking that it had holes in it. It was ugly. Scoffing, she let the leaf go. It wasn't worth her attention.
Roxy sighed, rolling onto her back while making a mental note to clean her fur off later. She stared up at the branches of the taller pine trees. They cast their powerful and dark shadows onto her, making her mood lighten just slightly. She never understood why many canines would be afraid of this place. She admitted that it could be intimidating if you didn't know your way around here, but she preferred it that way. She liked the dark.

Everything was dark. The lofty pine trees were emitting a dark emerald hue that blanketed the forest floor. This color was spread across the ground like a sheet of moss. Pawsteps here in the darkness were tricky. Illusion’s deep umber eyes glowed with the effort it took to discern anything in this blackness. The nerves in them worked furiously to pivot them at an angle that would allow for maximum light. Above the treetops, flecks of sky could be glimpsed. Down here, she could barely distinguish the faint outlines of sprouting foliage. But in total darkness, she could never be sure of anything. It could just be an illusion her mind had fabricated.
Wandering in the eternal darkness, Illusion began experiencing her doubts about escaping from this forest alive. Predators could easily snap her up; she would never notice. But then, how would they detect her? She was a mere mist floating along the forest floor. Even better, the thick pine trunks deadened all sound. Scents would be the only way to detect another’s presence.
Illusion had little reason to enter this desolate abode, empty of life. Though, there was plant-life, of animals there were none. Or so it seemed at first. As she ventured deeper into the twisted labyrinthine woods, her desperate eyes caught a whitish glow emanating from her right. Relieved and curious, she stalked forward a few steps to investigate.
Here, in this clearing, light was not as dim. As Illusion’s eyes adjusted to this sudden change of light, her wide ears pricked at a rustling side ahead. Peering vaguely in that direction, she was astounded to see a white blur abruptly burst out of a nearby briar patch. Narrowing her straining eyes – although they were already pretty narrow in shape – she realized she recognized this fox. The other was a pure, snow white Arctic fox with a thick pelt that improved the heat none. Perhaps this was why she chose to remain in this cool area. Her pallid coat, however, was now streaked with grime and the eerie, greenish hue produced by the trees.
Now, the other fox collapsed upon her back, as though exhausted. Illusion’s tail twitched as she approached this scene. Softly, she crept behind the unaware fox. ”Sensible canines don’t lay around enemy lands,” she whispered. ”You see how easy it was to approach without your knowledge?” Now, she was glad for the cover the darkness granted her. Carefully hidden in copious shadows, she was certain the fox did not possess the ability to see who she was.

Meanwhile, Dusky is not too pleased... [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] [atrb=width,430,true]

Doubt is never a good idea. While what you doubt may be wrong, the feeling you experience is not the most pleasant. However, sometimes restraining your doubt has its consequences. This was the exact dilemma Dusk was going through that day.
The previous night, she had glimpsed an odd sign in the stars. Apparently, she was to investigate an old pine forest at the edge of her lands. Curiously, the heavens deigned to reveal why she was to do so. However, ignoring the nagging doubts in her heart, she stole into the forest the next day.
In the pine forest, everything glowed a dark, moss-green hue. Shafts of emerald tinted sunlight poked through miniature cracks between the tall, imposing trees. Oddly, the ground beneath her paws was slippery with dew. Treading carefully, she picked her way among the low, gnarly branches and shrubs that snagged at her elegantly groomed coat. Her pearly, tawny pelt was blanketed with a greenish sheen. Shivering with the cold, ethereal temperature, she trod onwards until she reached a clearing, where more sunlight was present. There she witnessed an odd scene. A ghostly white silhouette was sprawled on the floor. From the corner of her darting eyes, she spotted a flicker of movement, as though another canine lay in wait.
Such an abnormal spectacle this was! With this latest sight, all of her previous doubts flew off into nothing. She was sure this was what the stars from last night were telling her. Then, an odd stench hit her nostrils. Sniffing daintily, she identified it to belong to a fox. A fox from another pack had dared trespass on her lands?!! While she was angered by this, she did have to respect the nerve it must have taken to intrude upon her lands.
As she approached this group, her slim tail lashing furiously, she heard a wispy voice break into the quiet of the forest, hollow sounding and deadening. Here, Dusk hesitated, but only for a fraction of a millisecond before trudging onwards. ”What,” she demanded as she neared the intruding fox, ”is your business here? You have absolutely no right to trespass the mythical lands of Hu’li! Speak, fox!” Dusk now proceeded to stare heatedly at the pale fox before her.

She couldn't see the canine all too well, for it was still dark in this forest. She could tell the canine was a fox, and even one from the pack she was in. She almost frowned. Why the hell would another pack member be here?
"And sensible canines wouldn't bother them," She retorted, glaring at the fox who was named Illusion. "Unless they were nosy, which you obviously are."
She sat up just in the nick of time as she heard paw steps very close. Another fox maybe? But, as the scent drifted to her nose, she froze. The Alpha of this pack was here? For a moment, panic went through Roxy's mind. She bolted into a somewhat tensed stance. Her eyes quickly scanned the area, looking for some form of escape. Her eyes passed something and quickly went back to it. It was the Alpha, and she wasn't happy. With her ferocious stare at Roxy, she demanded she know why she was here. At this, Roxy scoffed, her true nature coming through.
"Mythical?" She gave a short, rude laugh. "You seriously believe that this filthy place is mythical? Pathetic." For a moment, Roxy hoped she took the Alpha's mind off of the question she asked. She couldn't think of a reason, and hoped to never tell.
She glanced at Illusion, unsure of whether she should actually trust her. Would she back her up if a fight broke out with the Alpha? The day was certainly tense enough. She gave her thoughts a twirl, trying to figure out what to do with her situation. She could easily try to escape, but could possibly be caught by the Alpha. Her options were limited to either ask for forgiveness and leave this place, try to escape, or start a fight. Roxy didn't want to be attacked, but with the Alpha's searing mood, she had a great possibility to get injured, die even. She shivered. Roxy had too much stuff to do in her life. She didn't want to die.

If Dusk kills them, such a tragedy... [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [atrb=background,http://i48.tinypic.com/35mnl39.jpg]
The pale fox swiveled around to catch sight of Illusion. And recognized her. Puzzled, she paid little attention to the harsh words thrown at her. She was slightly startled at this recognition, though she demonstrated none of this surprise. ”But what does it matter when you have been scented by the beast while I lounge in their triumph?” she smirked, her cool words flowing smoothly. Anger flitted into those glaring, amber eyes, glowing in the semi-darkness with rage. The fox before her rose unsteadily on her spindly legs, staring at an object behind her view. Someone was approaching. Illusion shrank easily into the shadows.
Earlier, Illusion had sensed another canine approaching but had sadly pushed that thought away. Now, she was glad the other fox had alerted her to the presence. Suddenly, a harsh voice shattered the pending silence, a commanding tone that snapped her to attention. Poking her tiny head out, she layed eyes on a tawny wolf with a magnificent mane of silky fur, groomed to every last strand until it gleamed. The alpha. Somehow, her sharp senses had grasped this concept. So the alpha of Hu’li had come to investigate. But how had she known they would be in the forest? After all, such a delicate thing wouldn’t typically storm drafty places like this…
Perplexed, she could only watch dumbly as the alpha’s quiet rage took over. Illusion, with all of her dislike towards the other fox, had to admire her nerve to talk back. Though the wittiness of her response was none, it did take courage to stand up to such an alpha. As for her part, she barely stifled the chortles that rose when the alpha had mentioned ‘mythical’. The pale fox stared back at her. Her eyes held distrust, uncertainty, confusion… pleading? Slowly, Illusion blinked her beady eyes, wondering if she had really seen something that begged her to step in and be of assistance in those cool, rebellious eyes. Now fear entered the dwelling; Illusion noted the terror stealing upon the fox. Even though the other fox treated her with nothing but anger, she felt something should be done. She deserves this! her mind raged. However, she ignored this inside voice. It had no right to interfere with her plans.
Snarling, Illusion backed out of the briar patch she had been crouching in. She advanced towards the alpha menacingly. ”Trespassing though we may have been, you are still outnumbered! Dare you resist, your puny pack will be wiped out,” she growled. Her shrewd eyes stared icily into the alpha’s furious, penetrating ones. Coldly, she continued, ”Retreat, and thank your precious Lana that you may do so safely.”

But wait! Dusk hates tragedies. Changing the channel to some comedy... [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] [atrb=width,430,true]

Another rustle in the hedges. Was someone hiding in there? Concealed to plan an assault? As the alpha of a powerful pack, Dusk couldn’t risk being attacked. Warily, she approached at an angle so that she, the pale trespasser, and the bushes were aligned perfectly. At her heated response, the fox seemed to quail before regaining her confidence.
The fox’s jibe hurt her pride plenty, but this didn’t alarm Dusk. ”How do you think I found you? I was guided by the heavens above. These trees you see all around you? Sentries posted to surround you.” Her words were set in a lilting tone, high and mighty, but soft and sweet. And very dangerous.
She saw a multitude of emotions flick across the fox’s soft features, fear being the last of them. Dusk’s eyes narrowed as she saw the fox glance at something – or someone – behind her. Her suspicions were very much aroused. Someone was definitely concealed in those hedges. Nervously, she hissed, ”I know you are in there. Come out immediately!” And ‘come out’ the new fox did.
The previously concealed fox was tiny in frame and had a pale gold texture about her pelt. Splashes of gleaming white met the gold at her flanks. Twin punctures were seen in her muzzle, those soulless, beady eyes. Fangs glimmered behind curled lips. It was much apparent that this spitting fox was fuming about something. Then, she let loose her fury in a tidal wave of insults and threats.
The picture of this midget fox spewing such anger greatly amused Dusk. She simply could not contain the contorted mirth welling in her throat. It seemed so ironic in some odd way. Still chuckling, she crooned, ”Aww, you cute little thing… Yes, because I feel so threatened that you two midgets have decided to take on someone with such supremacy as me… So honored that you have spared my life…” Typically, Dusk was not prone to sarcasm but this was just too much! Almost eagerly she stared into the other fox’s narrowed, almond shaped eyes, wondering what she would say next.

Of course she wouldn't do such a thing. It was too much out of her personality.
"And if you ever think about attacking us, we'll bite your tail off and feed it to your mythical Sola!" She snapped, growls rolling off of her chest and out of her muzzle. "So retreat, less you want to be decapitated."
As the wolf spoke out, Roxy's fur began to bristle. The sarcasm that dripped off of each word fueled her anger. Her claws gripped the ground underneath her paws, as if restraining her from attacking. Her teeth were bared, showing off her pearly white teeth. Her fangs glistened in the light, and her eyes were clouded with rage.
"You think you're so great? Well, you're not! You're even more pathetic than I thought, what with all your idiotic yapping." She spat, her growls growing louder. "Maybe you should get your infamous Luna to come and kiss your paws! Maybe then you'd feel worth something other than the dirt I walk on."
And with that, she rushed towards the wolf and leaped up, aiming at her throat. She longed to feel the warm and dirty blood of the wolf's running down her tongue and staining her precious white fur. Fur that she'd have to clean later.

This was one delusional alpha. As the wolf ranted about heavenly guidance and other nonsense, Illusion was tucked into the listless shadows that blanketed the entire forest. That is, until the alpha demanded her presence be revealed. Leisurely, she had exited her temporary refuge, stretching her slender limbs out as though they were cramped. Aiming onyx, slitted eyes at her, she had said her bit, barely noticing the flicker of respect the pale fox’s eyes reflected. But that was only a momentary emotion. A few seconds later, as Illusion’s eyes flicked over, she glimpsed no such feeling. All she saw was anger as the fox executed her threats.
And the alpha’s attitude to all this? She merely cackled with wild mirth at their statements. As she did so, Illusion shuffled her tiny paws uncomfortably. The wolf’s taunt at her size hit a weak spot hard, shattering what little self-confidence that remained in her possession. However, Roxy, not to be daunted, bared her fangs, which glistened a dull green hue, and latched dagger-like claws into the earth. ”Careful,” she cautioned in a murmur. If looks could kill…
Once again, the milky white fox began spouting insult after insult, a tidal wave of threats meant to wither away the precious and refined bloom of a canine. With a sense of alarm, Illusion saw a murderous glint in her eyes, as though her fury had broken free from her willpower’s clasp. With barely a warning, she had lunged at the alpha, aiming for the throat, which by now was still echoing with derisive laughter. At this, a strangled ”No!” was wrenched from Illusion’s throat. There was little way Roxy could triumph over a canine as skilled as this wolf. With a yelp of malice, she raced over and attempted to swat the feisty fox away, clutching a pallid white ear with her spiky claws.

Now if Dusk would only quit laughing in time to save herself... [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] [atrb=width,430,true]
| [atrb=background,http://i509.photobucket.com/albums/s333/Busstuck_McGee/postingtablebackground-2-1-1-1-1-4.jpg]
It took training to achieve as high a position as alpha. Training in a variety of fields. Only with such acute studies could one possibly consider their high status. And those who did claim their rank had mastered such abilities as veiling one’s emotions. However, now Dusk could hardly contain the bubbles of mirth that popped from her feelings. It was all too much! The comical expression stamped onto their faces as they lured themselves into thinking she was frightened… The hilarious words they flung at her… The dramatic changes that crept onto their faces as they realized she wasn’t taking them seriously…
The pale fox’s voice rose in a grand crescendo, her words dancing a quickly paced tempo. Soon, growls no longer able to be kept under control began emitting from her throat. At this, Dusk’s maniacal laughter hesitated for a fraction of a millisecond. And in that same space of time, the fox attacked. Instantly, Dusk’s natal instincts took over, her reflexes sharp and quick. As a fawn blur smashed headlong into her assaulter, she whirled around, swiping at the two with extended claws. Following this was a magnificent leap over the two foxes.
Now Dusk was not one to approve of violence, but she had to admit she was in her element. As she stretched out all of the numbness resulting from her lack of practice, she felt her skills awaken from their deep slumber. She had landed in a patch of weeds, a soft pile that cushioned her hasty arrival. Now, she twisted around and launched herself back into the melee. She was the alpha of a thriving pack. She had to survive, had to fight back.

Now, Roxy may have been in a low rank, but this did not mean that she didn't know how to fight. She knew her head on attack was useless, and could probably get her injured. However, her anger had clouded her common sense and told her to attack. And so she did.
She watched with contempt as the wolf had dodged her attack and leap over both herself and Illusion. With a widening of the eyes, she rushed back to escape from the claw that had swept over both her and Illusion. She didn't dodge it too well, and had gotten a long scratch on her back. Thankfully, it wasn't too deep and bled little.
She stood her ground as the wolf came running back at them. Roxy wasn't sure what she was going to do. All she knew was that she had to avoid getting hit and make her hits dead on. This was going to be tough.
With a snarl, Roxy bolted forward toward the wolf. Without a moment's thought, she quickly swerved off to the right, just before she was within reach of the wolf. She stopped dead in her tracks, and made herself head back toward the wolf. With a battle cry escaping her throat, she pushed herself up into the air and aimed to land on the wolf's back. She hoped to get a bite on her neck, and if not, at least get a scrape at her.

Long live long post [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true] | [atrb=background,http://i48.tinypic.com/35mnl39.jpg]
She couldn’t ignore it, couldn’t pretend otherwise. The rest of society either treated her badly, stood oblivious to her altogether, or feared her. She accepted that, though she wasn’t about to embrace it with open paws. Even accepting so hurt. She couldn’t skirt around the fact; Illusion was an outcast.
Within her highly perceptive and open mind, there was that one little issue that confused her. She simply failed to comprehend others’ resentment towards her. For how had she wronged them so? So of course, pain was her everyday medicine, the vitamins that enriched her soul. And that deadly and deep scratch the wolf just complimented her with? Her daily pleasure.
Illusion knew she had picked one battle she could never triumph over. Although Roxy was in the same predicament she was in, it did appear as though all three were opponents against each other. She had clawed at a pale, now ragged ear, only to find it wrenched back as the fox it belonged to attempted to dodge an oncoming scratch. While that fox had escaped unblemished save for a thin line of blood, she had suffered the worst of it.
Allowing a slight wince of pain, she swiveled her tiny muzzle around to examine the effects that ran along her left flank. It sported a jagged gash oozing rivulets of crimson. Scarlet stained her entire left side, smudging her magnificent, creamy beige coat with its ghastly hue. Snarling, she aimed a swipe at her attacker, but the alpha had already leaped away into a pile of weeds. Her plume of a tail flicking with energy, she bounded after the wolf, who merely leapt back over her.
Again, Roxy was lucky enough to dodge the second oncoming assault. Illusion, limping from her cut, pounced onto a dangling fringe of fawn, the alpha’s tail. As she did so, a white blur abruptly bore down onto the alpha, pinning her to the spot. Roxy! She had tried to prevent that fox from being severely injured by the wolf. And instead paid her own blood at her futile attempt. Some token thrown her way. Rage clouding her harrowed mind, she sank her claws deep into the pale fox’s right flank.

Short post... Short life? [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] [atrb=width,430,true]

OoC: Normally I would add a lot more to this, but I decided to keep it like this because it’s exactly 200 words long. Odd, huh?
These woods were thick and spread out for miles. Lofty pines stretched out from the tip of the looming mountains, seeping down in a river of deep emerald to a location just beyond the horizon. And in the very center of this vast forest was a pale, fawn colored wolf, viciously scraping at two other canines, smaller in stature than she. When she withdrew her claws, dulled from the journey into the woods, they were dark with blood. Her entire paw was soaked with the scarlet tinge, contrasting highly with the jade green backdrop of trees. Wiping her stained paw across the forest floor, she glanced at the afflicted foxes, both sporting gashes that dripped onto the dirt.
Dusk pounced back into the scuffle. Immediately, she was winded by a sudden presence bearing down upon her back. Another weight jerked at her suspended tail. Giving an involuntary yelp, she whirled around, mustering up all her strength even with the additional burden of two other canines. She instantly followed up this swerve with an abrupt command of ‘roll’. She threw herself to the bloodstained floor and splashed about amongst the grit, coating her fur with a thin layer of crimson dirt.

Roxy yelped, and looked back towards Illusion. "What, you mangy fur ball?!" She growled, trying to ignore the searing pain on her flank. "You're supposed to be helping, not attacking."
She didn't try to shove Illusion's claws from her skin, but wished she could return the favor. Unfortunately, she was too busy trying to stay on the wolf, sinking her own claws in the wolf's pelt. She didn't expect the wolf to drop to the ground and roll around.
It hurt, fuck it hurt. She couldn't deny it. It was like having a boulder slam into you. It was horrible. Her breath was taken away from her lungs, and her bones and muscles ached under the weight of the wolf. Her lungs desperately heaved, getting little air in return.
Roxy felt crushed underneath the wolf's heavy body. She took her claws from the wolf's skin and instead latched them to the ground. From then on, she tried to claw her way out of the wolf's massive body. Another roll went over her, knocking the breath out of her.
"What's with you, wolf? Hate being invaded by two little midgets?" She spat, finally getting a good amount of her body away from the rolling beast.
