The day was, to say the least, hot. At least for Simon it was. His fur was short, and he was small. This made the heat get to him, yet he loved it. Because of Simon's short fur, the cold could easily take hold of him and make him venerable. Thus, he adored warmth.
Simon was on his way back to the dens, hoping to get a little shuteye when he heard his Alpha's call. Without a moment's thought, he continued on his merry way toward Chase. Soon, he was close enough for comfort and took a small seat.
He dipped his head in greetings, and pushed his ears back as a sign of respect. "Hello Alpha." He stuttered out, still quite afraid of larger dogs. He knew he'd dread every moment of the pack meeting, since every large dog there was would be there.
Simon sighed as he started to hear the paw steps of other dogs. Soon, they'd all be here and he'd be shaking like no tomorrow. He knew he had to be tough, and have confidence in himself, but how could he if everyone around him towered over himself? He just couldn't see a way.

-.-.-Kairo-.-.- Kairo was having the most splendid dream. He was in a vast field and for some reason there seemed to be an abundance of fluffy white rabbits. They were everywhere and kairo was getting a kick out of chasing them. Bounding through the flowers was great fun and he wasn't actually worried about catching the rabbits. His foot twitched as the young dog slept. Every so often a chirping bark would emanate form the Shiloh Shepherd but Kairo kept on sleeping. It was sort of odd for him to be sedentary at such a time of day. Usually he'd be off causing some poor creature grief of simply digging. He had fallen asleep for lack of anything better to do. Plus it was hot and this made him sluggish. He had found a nice bit of shade in the pack dens and dozed off. Kairo's eyes creaked open at the sound of barking and howling. At first he thought it was part of his dreams but his senses soon sharpened. He lifted his head up, his eyes still cloudy with sleep, and looked out into the clearing. It was chase, beckoning for the company of his pack. Kairo was fully awake now and he swiftly lifted himself up. He gave his fur a shake before padding over to Chase. He gave a bow in greeting before sitting down. Simon was already there. Man, how long was I asleep? Kairo though to himself with a yawn.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][atrb=background,http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af292/KillerxZombie/Backgrounds/blackk.jpg] The sun was beating down harshly on the small, sandy clearing. A dark akita padded into the welcoming shade of the palms, her head hunkered down low. She paused and lifted her crown higher to pear down into the clearing, her pointed ears pricking. She could see the dazzling white form of her alpha making his way to a tall, smooth stone. Kitsune's mind raced to the conversation she had had earlier with Chase and she realized that he must be starting a meeting.
And that meant he would be announcing who the Second Alpha would be. Kitsune's energy was renewed, all past fatigue from the heat gone in the blink of an eye. The dark femme slipped down silently, noticing that tiny Simon was already there. She approached him slowly, trying not to appear too intimidating, and stopped by his side. As Chase summoned the pack, Kitsune revealed her pointed, white teeth in her trademark sarcastic smile and barked quietly, "Hey kid, why don't you sit close to me?"
Kitsune was aware that the spot was reserved for her, but she wanted Simon to be comfortable. If he could sit close enough to her to prevent from doing his pitiful trembling, yet at a respectable distance, he may feel safer. The akita herself didn't know why she was so kind to the little Chihuahua, normally she could only find the faults in others. She patted one of his large, bat like ears with a paw close to the size of his head in a fond fashion and turned to her spot. She circled once, then sat, loving how she could see the entire clearing. It made her feel stronger and more powerful, as if she could see everything.
Kitsune noticed another young dog entering the center of the clearing. He had a dazed look in his eyes and Kitsune knew he had been sleeping. She snorted in disdain. How lazy. Our borders need protection and our pack needs food and all he's doing is sleeping. The dark femme hid her obvious dissatisfaction and turned to look up at Chase. Her dark crown dipped as she murmured respectfully, "Alpha Chase."
Kitsune then turned back to gaze out at the small assembly, yellow orbs flashing impatiently for the ceremony to begin. |

Inexcusable. Plain and simple.
Sjahe would shake her head yet again and stretch her legs further, launching herself through the underbrush as fast as she could. Limbs seemed to hit the ground less and less as she hurried back. She'd been a distance away, and had barely managed to catch the howls that Chase had let loose. Of course, she had hoped to be the first to return, but even from the distance she still was away she could tell that there were already others here. In fact, she may have been one of the last, if not the very last. She shook her head angrily again, snapping her teeth in annoyance at herself.
She luckily skidded to a halt just before entering the clearing, giving her sleek body a shake while she thought about it. Then she sauntered in, trying not to look like she was a complete idiot for being the last to show. Something of a sheepish grin could have formed upon her features, she wasn't really sure.
She sat, copper haunches folding beneath a gleaming black bodice, head giving a polite nod to everyone in the clearing. She took in Chase, resting upon the bolder, looking somewhat regal as always. Dark eyes would then drift toward Simon, the tiny little thing that he was, and the form of Kitsune resting next to him. She thought briefly that it was good for the little nervous dog to get some socialization and it was also good for the. . . . less than social Akita to . . . to do something that involved being nice to another. Gaze would then flicker to the Shepherd --Kairo -- she corrected herself, and shook his head at his sleepy look. Though, perhaps she didn't know the extent of the situation and thus tried to keep herself from making judgment.
She gave herself another brisk shake, before turning to stare up at the rock Chase was resting upon. Her back was straight, and nub of a tail scratched back and forth against the earth of the clearing. She was already late, so for the rest of the meeting, she had to do a commendable job. That or she'd go hunting later.

Youth is wasted on... Solitude. Wasn't that usually how it all started. Quin mourning her losses, there were so many. Her Distant blue eyes searching the empty horizon wondering what could have been, or feeling sorry for herself. Solitude usually painted a sad face upon her blank features but this time she felt nothing from her losses but gain. Could there be a positive to the end of one life? If it was possible would that positive be anything but the start of another life? Meeting Chase, meeting Kairo, Kitsune, learning to love and hate each of them? And how she wanted to die for them, it was a burning in her blood a fear that vibrated through her bones, a rush of adrenaline and it coursed through her body. The wind did not whisper, it hissed and the trees swayed in slow motion at its command.
Paranoia caused Quin a great deal of trouble, insomnia above all else. When the red pelted canine did sleep she did so near the edge of Chase's lands. Sometimes even on the wrong side of the boarder. Brightly coloured lids closed over her dark eyes, lashes casted a shadow down her pale face. She asked only strength to do what she had failed to do before, no innocent blood would flow upon this Earth while her lungs drew in the stale air. A whisper passed charred lips, so low that not even her ears could hear and it was quickly swallowed up by a familiar sound. The calling of her lord, a happiness filled her, though the sound was faint and rather far. Alert ears swiveled to the noise, but Quin was not quite on the same page as reality.
Her muscular body jolted forward and with a new found energy sprinted toward the voice. Was he ready for her? She loved surprises! Subconsciously her mind directed her body across the land, weaving through the brush and trees, over fallen logs and into the clearing where the others stood. Her tongue was hanging from the side of her mouth, corners of her lips stretched upward and her sides rose and fell rapidly. That was until she saw the others. A noise caught in her throat, one that would have been a joyous yelp became but a scratchy cough. 'Harkin', where was he? A frown pulled on both corner of her ebonite lips. Aquamarine eyes narrowed as they fell on Chase, a look of disappointment. It lingered there for a moment before shifting to the bi-coloured facade of the doberman, she did not know the name that went with the face but the look was more dubious. Quin didn't really care about her, and her attention shifted again. Skipping over Kitsune to look at the tiny pup, Simon, her lord's pupil. She couldn't help but to smile a little, of course it faded quickly when she looked to Kairo, he was wide awake now it seemed, but she was not quite satisfied.
Silently she moved toward him, the mischievous pup. Now there was nothing wrong with mischievous or adventurous, in fact it was an important part of his life. She was certain he would become a healthy and productive member of the pack, but he certainly gave her plenty of grey furs in the process. Now though, it was time to listen and learn, his mind could be no where else but here. A low growl rumbled in her throat, warning him to pay attention, then she placed her body on the ground next to him for safe measure. In case his mind, or eyes wandered again, however, most of her attention had been diverted to Chase. As respectful nod was given to let him know she was ready, and that was the end of it.
The wicked.

[/b] he began cordially, as the common way to start the meetings, "There are many things I must discuss with you all this afternoon, so this will be a long meeting. But first," his eyes twinkled, "I would like to announce, finally, and with great joy, that I have chosen, after great consideration, the Packs Second." he cleared his throat, "I have chosen this member based on their bravery, prudence, and dependability. This member will, if I should die, be the Pure Bloods next Alpha. Kistune," he motioned to her, "I have chosen you. Congratulations."He left a moment for congratulations and for her to register the thought, then moved on. "That leaves but one position left to be filled: healer." his eyes darkened. You have no idea how important this position will become... "I have been taught by the packs last healer, Taryn, and therefore will instruct any canine willing to take on this important duty. Those interested may seek me out at the end of this meeting."Another pause. "There is another, more pressing issue facing our pack." his eyes went visibly dark with anguish and fear for his pack. Self hatred, for he had failed them. " I have reason to believe," he said slowly, every word grating and vile on his tongue, "That the Hu'li and the United packs are forming an alliance, with the intent to conquer The Pure Bloods." Simon blinked, and looked up at Kitsune. She wanted to sit by him? Warmth filled his being, and he gave her a grateful look. "Thanks Kitsune." Somehow, Simon felt a tad safer when around her. Maybe it was because of her size, or maybe it was they were friends. Either way, he supposed.
As Chase began speaking, Simon listened. He never was the type to just drift off into his own thoughts. Soon, Chase mentioned the second in command. Simon had no real idea who would be the second, but wasn't very shocked to hear that Kitsune had gotten to rank. Happiness swelled in Simon's chest, and he couldn't help but turn his head to her and murmuring a sentence or two of congratulations.
Chase continued on speaking, and Simon once again listened. However, his happiness turned to fear and shock. It was like someone told him that all this time the other dogs were just dogs his size in costume, and everyone had taken the costumes off revealing their true dog selves.
"What?" He blurted out. "That can't be possible!" With a tremble of fear racing down his spine, he shook his head. He couldn't believe it.
Simon had trouble understanding that it might not happen, or that it could be rumors. But, he couldn't help but fear for his pack. This place was his home, he couldn't imagine being torn from it and thrown into battle, only to lose. His mind couldn't comprehend it at all.

Kairo watched as the other members filed in. none of them seemed as though they would like to talk while they waited so of course he got bored. He stared idly at a branch and fought the impulse to go play with it. This thought was squashed entirely when Harlequin arrived on the scene. It seemed as thought the female had read his mind because she issued a growl in warning. Kairo flashed a sheepish grin before turning his attention back to chase.
The meeting would begin now and Kairo was rather eager. This would be his first real pack meeting, at least he counted it as so. He had previously been too young to even comprehend the material brought up but now he had that understanding and opinions.
Chase's first order of business: the second alpha. He had hopes for Harlequin but when Kitsune was chosen, he was happy nonetheless. He said a quick congrats to here before looking back to chase. Next: the position of healer. It was a shame that Simon wasn't old enough, Kairo had always pictured his fellow pupil as a healer. With time however, he would see what would truly become of the smaller dog.
The last thing Chase said made Kairo's fur rise. The fact that those two mongrel packs would even dare to attack them made him want to growl. He was prideful but the danger in this situation did not escape him. He would have to have faith in CHase and the other members of his pack that, if this prediction came to pass, they would make it through unscathed.

She was quiet a majority of the meeting, watching the reactions on others faces when the second alpha was announced. No one seemed extremely put out that they had "lost" the position to the Akita female and for that she was glad. Sjahe had never before held a conversation with the Akita and she knew not if the female was deserving of the position. According to Chase and the words of congratulations from the other pack members, they all deemed she had. Sjahe threw in a small word if congratulations as well, after her mental calculations had ceased.
It was only after this would she return to looking at Chase still perched atop the rocks. The next few words of his would quite nearly shatter her careful composure. It very nearly did in fact, and the quite normally stoic female who specialized in not showing emotion in front of others would do so.
Her lips pulled back from teeth, chest rumbling like the running motor of an automobile. How dare they! While Sjahe had no hatred for these wolves and their halfbreed friends, had no hatred for anyone, she could not understand the indignity that was to attack another pack, not to mention ganging up on them to insure the loss. It was unthinkable to her. Regardless of the fact that her pack believed that wolf-blood was an unneeded tarnish, they should not be attacked just for that reason. The Hu'li, who believed something the exact opposite should not be attacked for that belief either. The female doubted they would like it very much if the situation was turned. It made her blood very nearly boil to hear what they planned to do.
She spoke, quietly after she had pulled the anger back and stuffed it back into her normally locked cabinet. "What do you plan to do?" they had little numbers, though she predicted that if they did fight, it would not be all losses on their end. The fighters here would bring everything they had. However, if it came down to numbers winning was nearly impossible. She shook her head, whatever was decided would be done. She couldn't help but hope it involved fighting them off though. Just to show that her pack would not stand for that type of slap in the face again.

I'll keep you... Her eyes narrowed and she shot Kairo a mock angry face, she hated to admit she was proud of him. She hated to admit that he might go farther, do better. Most of all she hated that he was more emotionally sound than she was, but she cared for him and his well-being. Quin wanted needed Kairo to succeed. The sound of Chase's voice caused her to draw her attention away from Kairo to listen, and she did so without complaint or hesitation.
As Chase spoke, Quin became more and more interested in what he had to say. Her attention was on him completely, she only hoped he was doing the right thing. It was Chase's job to lead and hers to follow, she offered up her opinion but ultimately placed her trust and her life in his paws. Following his intuition with all her strength. She already knew the dilemma he and his pack faced, not believing in him would no doubt lead to their demise. Perhaps he would fail and maybe he would not, but if she could not trust him, if anyone in the pack was not with him, it could spell the end for them all. If there was anything left of Quin that was good, it was her dedication. She was picky about who she followed, but once she did follow her, there was nothing that could tear her from her pack. She did not blink when Chase announced Kitsune as the second, she certainly had her uses, but she did not command respect. Certainly not Harlequin's respect and Quin was certain to get into trouble, but if there was one thing Harle did well it was take punishment. Quin could pretend to like Kitsune, but she would not pretend to respect the mouthy dishonorable canine. There were no congratulations given, Quin was not the type to waste her breath on anyone so undeserving of her attention. Chase went on to speak of another position; Healer. She knew how important this position would become and she was tempted to take the offer, however Quin felt her skills were better suited for the battle field. Naturally she'd hate to have to turn Kitsune away, or be responsible for saving her pathetic little life. The very thought sent chills up her spine. No, someone else would have to take that responsibility.
Finally, the most important announcement passed through her lord's pale muzzle. A horrified look slipped across Quin's muzzle in reaction to the way he had said it. He seemed so frightened, how was she supposed to follow such a coward? She cared for him and the pack greatly, but if he did not have faith in himself, or the rest of his pack... No, if he did not have faith in her, they would all perish. A snarl caught in her throat and she parted her jaws to speak, but she was interrupted by the small, childish voice. Her eyes shifted to the owner, resting her empty gaze upon his childish features. "Everything will be alright." She offered in her kindest tone. She meant it, though her eyes remained empty, her words were sincere. It was a mix of promise to herself and reassurance to the rest of the pack. Harlequin would die before she allowed a wolf within 10 feet of Simon or Kairo, that she swore. She wanted to be there for Kairo as well. More than anything she wished she had the strength to comfort her pupil, but he needed to be strong, and she could not interrupt his own developed coping process. Her eyes turned to him immediately after the words left her lips and she was surprised to see his reaction. Finally she redirected her now proud gaze back to Chase, Kairo had the right idea, he had faith and she could ask nothing more of the pup. She had every right to be proud of the child. Even Chase could learn a thing or two from the young Shepard.
Steady.
