The day was warm, sunny with blue skys. A doe stood grazing on the lush grass that covered the forest. Her ears flickered every now and then, listing for any sound of danger. Green eyes peered from a bush, watching her, waiting for the right moment. Charlie stood stock still, barely breathing. Any sound could set the doe off, and as he couldn't hear, it was impericable he did not move. She stepped closer to the dog, moving her long legs delicately. It was almost a shame to kill such a beautiful creature but hungry dogs must be fed. Slowly, ever so slowly Charlie moved his paw lightly in front of him, then the other. He moved his body into a hunting position and tensed. The doe lifted her head and the brute froze, worried she would bolt but after a moment returned to her meal. With what he hoped to be a fearsome snarl Charlie leapt from the bushes and before the doe reacted bit on her leg. She lept away in fear, and the chase began. The large black and wight dog pounded after her, his toung lolling out. He chased after her, feeling the power in his muscles as he ran what was to him a silent chase.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][bg=9933cc] Blue eyes scanned across the area, in search for nothing but peace. They belonged to Serial, who at the moment was out of her pack. Serial sighed. Leaving her pack for even just a little bit made her worry about it. She had no Beta nor a mate. Those dreaded pure bloods could attack any moment and she wouldn't be there to help stop the invasion. But nonetheless, Serial continued on with her search for a peaceful place.
Serial crossed over a couple rocks when the sudden scent of dog washed over her. Loner, was the first thing that passed through her mind. There was no pack scent mingled with this dog's.
A growl rumbled through her chest. It was uncomfortable for Serial to know that a retched loner was out here. Sure, this land was claimed by none, but Serial did not want any loner near her persona.
The next scent that hit her was blood. The blood of a doe. It made her stomach growl in hunger, and her one ear perk up. The scent was just west of her. If she hurried, she could join in on this hunt. With that thought gone, Serial bounded towards the chase, forgetting about the loner.
In a couple minutes, she caught sight of the loner chasing the doe. The loner was a male, and his fur wasn't impressive by Serial's standards. She jumped up next to him, and began running alongside him. Her body itched at how close they were; her body wanted her to get away. Serial ignored this feeling, and snapped at the doe. She missed by just an inch.
"Damn," Serial muttered, disappointed her bite didn't hit. She glanced at the loner for a moment. "Sorry for tryin' to b'te the rascal. I could't help myself," She sneered. "loner." Her words were cut off, and were in the usual way she talked. She wasn't about to try to fix herself, far from it.
Serial's black and white fur ruffled in the air as her tail was held as highest it could go. Her long fur made her feel heavier than she should, but she was use to it. The plant in her mouth was bitter and tasted disgusting, but she continued to keep it. It made her feel energized and Serial liked that feeling. Soon though, she'd have to spit it out. It was fading away in flavor, and Serial didn't like that.

”…And give me guidance, O Luna, to shield me from thy sister, O horrid sunny beams.” The great, tawny wolf of small demeanor picked herself up delicately from where she had been previously sprawled on the grassy floor, prostrate in her ritual prayer. A shaft of light centered on her right eye as though in defiance, coaxing out the fire in her intense eyes. She shook her head and swayed for a few steps. The alpha was typically dream-like after her prayers, a vulnerability she could not help.
For a while, Dusk performed a curious action. She spun a few circles then loped to and fro over the ground. She was near the rain forest, a neutral hunting ground abundant with prey – and predators. She did not want to expose herself to these beasts directly after a prayer; it was too dangerous. So, after regaining connection to her central nervous system, she proceeded onward to her destination. As she solemnly progressed along a path she was blazing, the closely cropped tree branches parted slightly, perhaps sensing the powerful link between her and nature. Passing beneath their arching arms, she deigned to glance upwards, politely refusing an invitation to glimpse the sky when she entered a clearing. It was wholly unnecessary. Besides, she had predicted today’s weather about 20 moons ago.
She was just about to reenter the forest when an unfamiliar scent struck her. Three different aromas mingled among this particular scent. Two canines – a dog and a wolf – as well as a deer’s blood. A wave of fury sifted among these smells. A dog dared exist in the same lands of she, daughter of Luna?!! It was atrociously preposterous. Someone would pay for this. The wolf would get off scot-free, but now the dog… Her anger subsided as she contemplated the thought of deer blood. She was hungry, she had to admit, and she needed to complete her routinely sacrifice, anyway. And what better than a juicy, tender deer to please Luna? With an eager, new spring in her gait, she pushed onwards, tracking the scents, which wove into one, all heading in the same direction.
The stink intensified as she went along. Mainly, it was the dog’s stench she was trailing. They always stank the worst. As she continued along her path, she began detecting faint voices – ill-tempered voices. A deer’s frantic scrambling came closer. The sound of stampeding came nearer until the deer – a luxurious, young doe – and the two canines broke into view, startling Dusk considerably. ”What-“ the words wrenched out. She hesitated before helping pursuing this doe. As she struggled to bring down the fierce deer and attempted to keep the others away from the doe simultaneously, she heard the wolf curse about loners. Hah! Better and better. This dog is a loner, of all things. she thought fervently, abandoning all serenity in her fury. The doe leaped nimbly away.
Not to be humiliated, Dusk shook off her momentary embarrassment and tried a new tactic. As she pranced about, cutting off potential escape routes, she sensed the heated feelings the moon-white wolf with raven black splotches had for the pesky loner. They were nearly equivalent to hers.
Soon, the deer’s lope was in a tired, limping fashion. Energetic with near success, Dusk redoubled her efforts to bring down her. Meanwhile, the other wolf had paused to gnaw on a bit of flesh she had managed to snatch. ”Well? Don’t just stand there like an idiot! Help us in the name of fair Luna!” her livid voice snapped. What was wrong with the wolf?

He focused on nothing but the doe, so he was surprised when the corner of his vision caught a flash of fur. He turned his head to look for a fraction of a second, then returned to the hunt. The doe was tiring now, which was good. Charlie could feel his energy failing, and felt a flash of relief that another was helping him. With another hoped-to-be-fearsome snarl Charlie leapt at the doe, his jaws firmly clamping on her hind leg. He bit harder and harder with almost enough strength to break the bone then he let go and lept in front of her. As he did so he noticed another wolf. Her mouth moved, but closed before Charlie could make anything out- she must have just finished speaking. Her face was angry, but facing the other she-wolf so Charlie returned to the deer, unconcerned. He growled, feeling the vibrations in his chest, baring his sharp teeth, stained with the doe's blood and lept for her neck. She bucked once, twice, but her injured leg didn't help her, and she fell over. With a flex of his powerful jaws Charlie ended the hunt, and his prize lay still. He lifted his head and grinned, his smile bloody, and looked at the two she-wolves. They both seemed angry. Maybe they had been arguing. Thanks. Please, help yourself to the doe. He played the words in his head, then spoke slowly, letting each word form on his lips before letting them go. He faced the wolves, so that he could catch any words on their lips. (Your wolves helped take down the deer, if you want. I didn't want to RP your dogs for you)

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][bg=9933cc] A growl of irritation came up at the full blooded wolf's talk. "You're doing just fine by yourself, wolf." Serial then turned to face the doe, and circled it slowly. She didn't want to frighten the poor thing, and wanted a quick and easy death. Her tail was up in the air, like a flag of black and white. She planned to go for the neck, the killing point. Just as she was about to leap at it, the loner dashed past her and leaped at the doe.
Serial held a look of surprise for a moment, and watched the loner end the doe's life. She didn't dare go in to help. This was his hunt, after all. She had intruded on it, and felt like he should be the one to finish the hunt. Even if he was a dreaded loner.
When the loner spoke, slowly, it caught Serial's attention. She turned to face him, and saw his blood streaked smile. Despite her dislike towards canines like him, she couldn't help herself from smiling even just a little bit. Her tail lowered a little lower to the ground, and she padded closer to the kill.
"I don't think I should eat this," She murmured. "After all, according to that wolf's standards," She glanced towards the wolf. "I did nothing." Nonetheless, Serial lowered her head and opened her mouth to reveal her full set of sharp teeth. She then took a chunk of the meat away from the doe, staining the fur around her mouth a bloody red. She then began chew on the meat, careful to not swallow the flower she held in her mouth before.

Just as Dusk cut off the pitiful doe’s final escape route, she saw the loner give a sudden lunge at the deer. His jaws had snapped the doe’s neck in half; blood was now streaming down in rivulets of scarlet, staining the doe’s tawny fur flecked with dots of umber. It brought a look of disgust flashing across Dusk’s face – not at the sight of blood but at the fact that the loner was the victor. The wolf with a peculiar mix of ebony and misty gray fur gave a snappy retort. This surprised Dusk greatly; she was renown with her powers of the celestial. Certainly, this little wolf mongrel knew who she was and would have thought twice before challenging her authority.
Abruptly, she ignored the ravenous dog gnawing at the deer and turned to the other. ”Do you know who I am?” she inquired softly but bluntly. Those deep, onyx eyes penetrated the other’s. ”I don’t care if you’re the Pure Bloods’ alpha, which you’re too higher up to be. I will not tolerate your attitude, you child of Sola,” she half spat in her irritation. The loner, simply emitting innocence, offered to share his catch. He was cast a look of contempt as she indignantly strode away into the shadows. She didn’t want so as much to touch the deer as it had already been claimed by the incompetent loner.
From her convenient location, she watched with further scorn as the wolf hybrid bestowed a friendly grin upon the unworthy loner. As the wolf spoke of their previous heated conversation, Dusk’s eyes narrowed at the loner. He was busily gobbling down his catch and flicked no ear as the wolf spoke. Why isn’t he listening to her? Surely his position creates a disadvantage to hearing her. Unless, he’s deaf…? No. Preposterous. She couldn’t prove that until she tested her theory.
Contemplating this, she ventured forward a few steps, padding over to the two and finally crouched just out of the loner’s line of sight. ”Good kill,” Dusk complimented, approval definite in her tone. She was purposefully speaking in a much louder voice than she was accustomed to. ”You’re a loner right?” she asked politely. Now to wait for the results… The potentially deaf dog would surely respond to her query if he could hear. If not, then… This would definitely prove to be a sure advantage in her part. She studied him carefully, concentrating on his ears perched on his white muzzle streaked with dark fur and stained with crimson.

Pleased that at least one wolf would share the meal Charlie began to eat as well, scarfing down hunks of meat like he hadn't eaten for months. It was nice to have company, and this doe would last him a long time. The wolves could take all they want, with a resonable amout left for him. Thinking this, he turned to find the other she-wolf, surprised to find her behind him. He frowned slightly. Was she sneaking up on him? An easy thing to do, but he had offered her his catch. Why attack him to take it? But he pushed that thought away. She seemed rather curios, puzzled. And a tad bit hostile. The brute smiled again. Didn't you hear me? You can help yourself. I certainly wont be able to eat it all myself.Still smiling pleasantly Charlie sat down facing her so he could communicate better. His curled tail gave a friendly wag, waiting for her to move.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][bg=9933cc] The wolf once again opened it's mouth and spoke words that didn't really mean much to Serial. They annoyed her, but weren't enough to actually make her break her already bending patience. Once the wolf finished one sentence, Serial began.
"Oh, I know who you are, Alpha of Hu'li." She said, her voice loud enough to hear. "But do you know who I am?" Okay, so she mocked the Alpha a little bit, but so what? She deserved it, after that wolf's snappy attitude. "Bah!" She snapped, a soft growl emitting from her chest after she heard the rest of the wolf's words. "Like I'd be the leader of that wretched pack."
Serial stepped away from the doe, not hungry any longer. The day was hot and being in a rain forest didn't make it any better. She felt like she was in a warm rain, with all the humidity. Of course, she'd never admit that she was suffering from the heat. She was too good for that.
As the wolf spoke to the dog, quite loudy might she add, Serial couldn't help but be confused. What was the Alpha playing at? The loner had stopped eating and became alert to the wolf. Serial kept observing them, not sure what was going to happen. She almost felt that the Alpha was testing the loner. But why would she? The dog wasn't blind, nor did he have a problem with speaking. Sure, he spoke a little slow, and seemed to react slower than most, but that didn't mean he was deaf... did it?

Dusk was flashed an irritated glance from the wolf mongrel. Ah, good. So she does know my identity, she thought with some lingering satisfaction. However, the other wolf had countered with the same inquiry, only applied to herself instead of Dusk. At this, she was puzzled and studied the wolf curiously. No, she did not know the other’s identity. ”Someone not as well known as I, perchance?” Dusk quipped. She displayed a triumphant half-grin at the other wolf’s resentment at being even as much associated with the Pure Bloods. ”United?” she ventured, her falsetto tone oozing sweetness.
Eagerly awaiting the results of her little ‘experiment’, Dusk gazed intently at the loner’s ears. They did not stir at her previous words. Well, that confirmed it. The dog was not only a loner, but he was also deaf. This heightened her advantages considerably. Her leering grin, however, was wiped as the deaf loner abruptly swiveled around to stare at her. His gaze was as startled as she was. Her lupine heart beating at presto, she glimpsed a baffled expression on the mongrel’s face. Apparently, Dusk wasn’t the only one astounded. Maybe the loner did possess some hearing. Otherwise, how could he have known she was behind him? And yet he, too, had been shocked.
He probably feels the need to always keep an eye on canines around him, she told herself firmly. So when he saw I wasn’t around, naturally, he got suspicious. She relaxed now. Of course; that was it. Glancing at the hybrid, she deduced that she was having similar thoughts. Dusk, however, was not about to voice these ideas. It would ruin everything.
Preferring this withdrawn and muddled wolf to the prior, hot-tempered one, she flashed a genuine smile directed at the deaf dog. ”Of course you can’t be expected to eat it all,” she responded kindly. She did pity the poor, deaf creature. She darted another glance at the United wolf. Scandalized that the loner had suggested she share the food of one not a Hu’li and a dog for that matter, she still retained her politeness and delicately snatched a bit of peeling skin. It refreshed her immensely, juicing up that lacking energy of hers. Again, she communicated a look to the other wolf; this time its message was: “Pity the dog and at least take a bit of the deer”.

Charlie was pleased that she took some meat, but her gaze held something he did not like. He narrowed his eyes and paced away from the wolf, and stiffened as she shot a glance at the other. Pity. She pitied him! She knows I'm deaf, and she pitys me! The brute felt a flash of anger. It puzzled him slightly that she knew. He had given no sign what so ever. Maybe it was more noticeable than he thought. He padded right in front of the wolves, his green eyes fiery as he looked into their eyes quickly, but held his gaze at the pure wolf. Don't pity me. He stood tall. There is no reason to pity me, to feel sorry for me. I'm no different from you, madam, with the exception that my ears are useless. At that he smiled, becoming friendly again and walked back to his original spot. Keeping his eyes on the wolves Charlie began tearing into the rich meat again and let his mind wander. He felt that neither the she-wolves liked him very much, but why? He had offered them his catch, he had been friendly, yet they were not. And the pity... he hated that! In his opinion, the only ones that should be pitied should be the truly evil.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][bg=9933cc] Serial shook her body, her fur moving everywhere. She was beginning to feel itchy. This tended to happen when it was hot out, and she wasn't in shade. The sun made her skin crawl as she was close to panting. Damn that heat and damn the sun.
At the Alpha's assumption, Serial smiled and stared at her for a moment. "Maybe," She said, a teasing tone in her voice. "Or maybe you just don't get out of your pack enough." When she heard her pack's name, her right ear perked. She nodded at the Hu'li Alpha's short question. "Yeah," she continued. "I'm the Alpha in United."
As the wolf padded up the doe to grab some meat, Serial saw her shoot her a glance. She ignored it. Why should she pity the loner and go and eat, when she wasn't even hungry? Plus, pity was something only the weak should have, and this loner didn't look weak.
The dog saw this pity, and Serial knew he was upset by it. She was even proved of it when he came up to both of them and spoke to the wolf. He told her to not pity him, for he was just as equal as they were. In some ways, he was right. They were all of different breeds, and were of different status, but that didn't make one of them lower or higher than the other.
"You are right, dog." She agreed. "But how are you able to understand us? If you aren't able to hear, how can you know what we say?" It was a good question, really. Serial wouldn't be able to hear another, if her right ear was like her mutated left ear. So how could he?

The wolf mongrel’s response was as tart as ever, balancing a light tone of tease in its voice. Preposterous, Dusk thought indignantly. Ruffled, she opened her mouth to speak. ”I know all there is to know – as long as it’s important,” she retorted smoothly. The mongrel then declared herself to be the United alpha. At this mention, Dusk inspected the alpha carefully. This was whom she was attempting an alliance with? ”I’m sorry,” she stated in a flat, unapologetic voice. ”I had no idea you were their alpha.”
Later, Dusk was gnawing on a leg bone and glimpsed a fiery hue in the deaf loner’s eyes. His orbs of fury appeared to be aimed at her, their emerald color tinted with crimson. Puzzled, she wondered how she had enraged him. Abruptly, he stepped in front of her, staring her down. She was astounded that he had the nerve to challenge such authority as her. She did not quail under his glance, however heated it was. In a controlled, quiet voice, she echoed her previous words, ”I’m sorry for offending you.” The United alpha appeared to find this hilarious, but agreed with the loner’s words.
Dusk stared at his motionless ears, which did not twitch as they spoke. ”Exactly,” she countered. ”How do you possess the ability to understand what we say?” By now, he had returned to consuming his meal.
Drawn in a sudden spell of bewilderment, Dusk closed her eyes and hummed a prayer of knowledge. It was a simple melody with a sweet refrain that spoke of harmony and wisdom, of loyalty and freedom. Interlocking with the tune was a song of hope, a stronger air and emotional too. Her heart, filled with the melodies, was straining to grasp these new thoughts of deafness. Whatever the others said, she still felt pity for the loner. How empty it must be without sounds of ecstasy, any emotion, or music.

He was pulled back to reality when his glazed eyes caught movement. Charlie focused again, just in time to "read" the wolf's apologies, to the other she wolf and to himself. He nodded at her, letting her know that her apologize was accepted, then turned to the other. Alpha. His green eyes widened in surprise and he straitened himself automatically in respect. "You are right, dog. But how are you able to understand us? If you aren't able to hear, how can you know what we say?" Charlie grinned. I read your lips. It isn't difficult to do, if I pay attention. Blah, horrible muse.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,500,true][bg=9933cc] Serial promptly ignored the Alpha of Hu'li's dry and meaningless apology. It didn't matter at the moment, and if that wolf got angry over it, then so be it. Serial had more important things to attend to, other than this wolf.
But Serial couldn't help but wonder. This wolf was from Hu'li, and was the Alpha there. This could be a great advantage for Serial. Maybe an alliance could fall over the packs? It would be hard, of course it would be. Many Hu'li wolves despised United, for many different reasons. Perhaps because they have dog blood in their veins as well as wolf blood. Or maybe because of more personal reasons. Whatever the matter, they could get along just fine with some help. And who better to be the help than the two Alphas? And think of the great advantage they'd have over the pure bloods! They would actually have the chance to take down those wicked beings. This potential alliance would be a good thing. Serial just hoped the other Alpha and her pack would think so.
The dog spoke again. Lip reading, he had said. This didn't necessarily surprise Serial, for she seemed more blank than shocked. She wasn't blank inside of her mind. She was mentally scolding herself. How hard was it to figure out that the dog was lip reading? It shouldn't have been hard at all, yet she wasn't able to figure out it. She concluded that she needed more training on her mind. If she could not figure this simple thing out, then how could she figure out more complex things? Wouldn't her pack perish if she didn't? Surely they would.
"I see," She mumbled. She shook herself out of her thoughts, and began to speak. "Well, how 'bout we all have introdu'tions, since we don' all seem to know each other well. I'll begin," She sat down on the ground, tired of standing. "I am Serial Cluckos, Alph' of United. An' who are you two?"

OoC: My muse has deserted me.
Dusk glimpsed a flash of anger in the alpha’s eyes. She appeared to bite back a retort with difficulty. Smart move, she approved of the United alpha’s wise decision to ignore her remarks. Hopefully, the alpha would also be wise to accept an alliance between the two rival packs. They simply had to bring down the ever-evil Pure Bloods.
Mulling over these thoughts, Dusk spotted a change of tone in the other’s eyes. It, too, was thoughtful, as though she was also considering an alliance. And this alliance wouldn’t only benefit the United pack but Hu’li as well. Tying their packs together would enlargen it considerably, strengthening their power. Then could she feel confident about the Pure Bloods being shoved down to their rightful rank. However, there were lingering doubts about their sincerity and ability to maintain the alliance. Judging by the state of their alpha told Dusk more of their incompetence than she would have liked. But she still forced a polite smile across her reluctant features.
Meanwhile, Dusk and the other alpha were treated to an intense stare by the loner once again. Slowly, he spoke, confiding his secret method of communication with them. Now that’s clever, she acknowledged, then voiced this out loud with, ”That’s pretty clever… for a dog.” Even this snide comment couldn’t cheer up the sudden depression that engulfed her. For she, with all her infinite wisdom and guidance from the heavens, had not figured this out. Worse, she had been outsmarted by a deaf dog. This was a serious blow to her pride. Although the dog had not purposely wronged her, she regarded this as a defiant challenge from the loner. A haughty expression appeared, replacing the earlier pity. To her lingering satisfaction, though, the other alpha seemed gloomy and appeared to be practicing self-discipline by reproaching herself silently.
After a few moments of this awkward silence, the mongrel alpha offered up introductions, starting by allowing them to know her name. Serial, Dusk pondered. This could prove useful later. Another eerie silence descended. What was happening? They were probably waiting expectantly for her to acknowledge herself. ”I am known by everyone,” she began regally, her posture straight and commanding. ”Surely, unless you have been recently awakened to the world’s eternal knowledge…” she sniffed, ”…You would know that I am Dusk, daughter of the fair Luna, child of the spirits, angel of the heavens and all that lays beyond.” With that, her voice trailed off into a whisper and she waited for the proceedings.
